Indiana Highway Accidents
The Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS) reports that nearly 5900 large trucks and buses were involved in crashes on our Indiana roadways in 2005. Despite Indiana’s general population ranking just 17th in the nation, our highways and interstates fall near the top for truck accident injuries and fatalities. Truly, Indiana highways serve as dangerous national crossroads, resulting in 1.3 traffic deaths per million driving miles. Poor highway design, increased speed limits, inclement weather, and negligent drivers all contribute to the unfortunate statistics.
Tabor Law handles many of the truck accident cases that occur in Indiana. We understand the factors that contribute to accidents on key interstates and highways such as I69, I70, I74, I65, I465, and I865. Truck driver speeding, following too closely, improper training, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can ruin families and lives.
Case Study
Torma v. Ryder Truck et. al.
Anthony Torma was driving northbound on I-69 in Delaware County when he came upon a line of traffic stopped in the roadway as a result of an earlier collision. Anthony timely stopped his vehicle, however a semi-tractor trailer traveling behind Anthony did not slow down or brake as he approached the stopped traffic. Consequently, the semi-tractor trailer crashed into the rear of Anthony's vehicle, crushing it and pinning Anthony in the wreckage where he died. Anthony left behind a wife and four children, whom Tabor Law Firm represented in a wrongful death action against the trucking company and its driver. Through our representation, Anthony's family received a seven-figure settlement from Defendants.
